Suggestions for research areas in 3D TV to be conducted by ATI.

1. The Design and Manufacturing Institute could add 3D TV vision to monitor and control concealed machine operations.

2. The Davidson Laboratory may gain a sharper insight into beach erosion and artificial reefs with a 3D camera and recorder.

3. Laboratories around the world are experimenting with 3D TV for many good potential uses. ATI could offer to repeat the experiment in its USA based research laboratories and possibly invent improvements that could benefit  both countries.

4. Lenticular viewing is being intensively researched abroad and shows the most promise for the future of viewer friendly 3D TV. If possible, ATI should make a major effort to raise sponsors for this project.

5. The BBC 100 watt experimental TV stations are available to showcase any aspect of  ATI research.

6. Distance learning of many engineering subjects could be facilitated by a 3D view of the complex laboratory experiments.

7. Air traffic control centers could be provided with 3D lenticularly viewed video or radar blips, 360 degree scanned from equipment totally self independent.

Three dimensional schemes have never achieved their potential advantage over the one eyed limited view of the environment , due to the refusal of the viewer to wear confining glasses, and the high cost of the 3D gear.

The price can be right if we proceed along these guidelines.

1. Color is not needed, black and white cameras are much cheaper and sensitive.

2. Lenticular TVs designed with only two images for limited angular viewing is appropriate for a sedentary use. The image is seen comfortably, without  glasses or fatigue.

3. A lenticular lens placed in front of a small LCD screen, can be made with current technologies at very reasonable prices. A preliminary discussion with Len Cardillo of REVEO corp gave credence to this premise.
